A "fit check" for a therapist refers to the process of evaluating whether a therapist's approach, personality, and expertise align with your specific needs and preferences. We want it to be matc between therapist and client for the best outcomes too! We have large team at GTLC and are confident we can find a great fit!
Here are some factors to consider during a fit check:
Before the first session:
1. Call our intake team 619-549-0329 ext 0 and about availability.
Online research: Review https://www.growthroughlifecounseling.com/meetourteam and check out their bio.
During the first session:
1. Comfort level: Do you feel at ease with the therapist?
2. Communication style: Do they listen actively and respond empathetically?
3. Expertise: Do they have experience with concerns similar to yours?
4. Therapeutic approach: Does their methodology resonate with you?
5. Personalities: Do you sense a positive and supportive dynamic?
Questions to ask:
1. What experience do you have with [my specific issue]?
2. What approaches or therapies do you use?
3. How will we work together to set and achieve goals?
4. How often will we meet, and what's your availability?
5. How will you maintain confidentiality and boundaries?
Trust your instincts:
If you feel uncomfortable or unsure after the first session, it's okay to seek another therapist. A good fit is crucial for effective therapy. If you didn't feel great after the first appointment, please call our intake team at 619-549-0329 ext 0 to schedule with another therapists.
As therapists, this is part of our training to learn it's normal the "fit" is not there for the client and we don't take offense. We also want you to maximize your time in therapy and make the most progress and welcome feedback or moving to another team member if that would better suite your needs.
